Custom fit solar shading

Solar Shading doesn't need to be restrained by the shapes of windows.

Koolshade® can be cut, shaped and fitted to ANY fenestration.

Square, round, triangular, all can be accomodated.

And, unlike blinds, you will still be able to see out.

Why Koolshade®?

An exceptional range of sustainable green credentials and the ultimate in solar shading.

Made in Britain - Delivered Globally

Our fabrics are all made in the UK to exacting standards.

100% recyclable

MicroLouvre Koolshade® metal fabrics and frames are 100% recyclable and are proven to last over 60 years.

90% recycled

The metal fabrics are made from over 90% recycled scrap copper.

Gable Ends.

This fine MicroLouvre Koolshade® architectural fabric can be manufactured in any shape, size or RAL colour to suit your needs.

One of the most frequent requests is for shading gable ends. The size and shapes are very hard to get any off-the-shelf shading products for, which will often leave no view out at all.

The fabric can be tentioned using cables or in frames which can be hinged and removable.

We enjoy the challenge of the most complex shapes and haven't yet encountered one we can't facilitate.

Designed to stop the sun’s heat & allow vision out.

The irregular shapes of rooms with shaped windows present unique challenges when it comes to addressing overheating issues. One of the major challenges is limited options for shading and ventilation.

Unlike other Solar Shading, KoolShade® will stop the sun’s heat before it reaches the glass due to the angled micro louvres. It is this same angular dependent technology that retains the outward visibility of views.

Better than blinds.

Blinds are most often inside buildings. This means that there are no views, limited natural day light and the heat of the sun gets inside the room. KoolShade® simply works.

Solar films will often over-promise and under-deliver, and will need replacing every few years. KoolShade® is proven to be 100% effective, from day 1, for decades.

Stylish & Versatile.

KoolShade® can be made to fit any space, literally. The screens, frames and fittings can be any colour you want or need.

KoolShade® solutions for solar shading are available as permanent or semi-permanent fixings and can be hinged, sliding or removable to suit the specific need.

Variety of shapes, sizes and colours

The architectural fabric can be configured into many geometric shapes and sizes. It is also extremely flexible, sturdy and resilient making it suitable for retro-fitting as well as for new projects.

Roof Lanterns Made Kool.

Roof-lanterns can be simply beautiful, but at the wrong time during the day, can act like a radiator for the sun's heat. Applying Koolshade® is a quick and effective way to enjoy the benefits of roof-lanterns all year round.

Easy to cut, contour, bend, fold and shape

How it works

How does MicroLouvre Koolshade® work?

MicroLouvre Koolshade® invisibly neutralises solar heat gain and glare before they even reach the window. MicroLouvre Koolshade® uniquely works non-stop providing dynamic value (heat blocking) performance to continually dissipate the sun’s heat and energy into the atmosphere but not blocking vision out, natural daylight or natural ventilation; solar shading using our products is efficient and effective.

Challenging Window Spaces

Overcoming Overheating in Unconventional Spaces

Rooms with shaped windows, such as gable ends, trapezoids, and round, present a unique set of challenges when it comes to ventilation and shading. These challenges can lead to uncomfortable temperatures and reduced energy efficiency.

Shaped windows come in various forms, including gable ends, trapzoids, and rounds. Each type presents its own unique challenges when it comes to addressing overheating issues.

Gable end windows, for example, are often found at the end of a pitched roof and can be difficult to shade due to their height and angle. Trapzoid windows, on the other hand, have an irregular shape that makes it challenging to achieve even distribution of airflow and temperature throughout the room. Round windows present similar challenges, with limited options for shading and ventilation due to their circular shape.

Limited Options for Shading and Ventilation

The irregular shapes of rooms with shaped windows present unique challenges when it comes to addressing overheating issues. One of the major challenges is limited options for shading and ventilation.

The irregular shape of these windows makes it difficult to use traditional shading solutions such as blinds or curtains. In addition, the lack of standard sizes and shapes means that off-the-shelf solutions are often not effective.

This limited range of options can have a significant impact on addressing overheating issues. Without proper shading and ventilation, rooms with shaped windows can quickly become uncomfortably hot and stuffy. This is especially true in warm climates or during the summer months. Custom solutions are often necessary to effectively address these challenges and ensure comfortable living conditions.

Achieving Even Distribution of Airflow and Temperature

One of the biggest challenges in addressing overheating issues in rooms with shaped windows is achieving even distribution of airflow and temperature. The irregular shape of these windows can disrupt the natural flow of air, leading to hot spots and uneven temperatures throughout the room.

This can make it difficult to effectively cool the space and create a comfortable environment for occupants.

To address this challenge, custom solutions are often required. These solutions may involve the use of specialized ventilation systems or custom-designed shading solutions that take into account the unique shape of the windows. By creating a more even distribution of airflow and temperature, these solutions can help to reduce overheating and create a more comfortable living or working environment.

Custom Design and Installation

Off-the-shelf solutions for addressing overheating issues in rooms with shaped windows are limited in availability due to the unique challenges presented by these windows. Custom design and installation of solutions is necessary to effectively address these challenges, and KoolShade® makes this process simple.

Custom solutions take into account the specific shape and orientation of the window, as well as the layout and use of the room.

This ensures that the solution is tailored to the specific needs of the space and provides optimal performance in addressing overheating issues.

Examples of Custom Solutions

One example of a custom solution for addressing overheating issues in rooms with shaped windows is the use of external shading options. These can be designed specifically for the shape and size of the window, and can effectively block out direct sunlight while still allowing natural light to enter the room. This helps to reduce heat gain and maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.

Another custom solution for addressing overheating issues in rooms with shaped windows is the use of specialized ventilation systems. These can include mechanical ventilation systems that circulate air throughout the room, or passive ventilation systems such as vents or louvers that allow for natural airflow.

These systems can be designed to work with the unique shape and layout of the room to ensure even distribution of airflow and temperature, helping to prevent hot spots and maintain a comfortable environment.

Benefits of Custom Solutions

Custom solutions offer a number of benefits when it comes to addressing overheating issues in rooms with shaped windows. One of the main benefits is improved energy efficiency. By designing a solution that is tailored to the specific shape and size of the room, you can ensure that it is as efficient as possible in regulating temperature and airflow. This can lead to significant savings on energy bills over time.

Another benefit of custom solutions is improved comfort. Rooms with shaped windows can be notoriously difficult to regulate, leading to hot spots and cold spots throughout the space.

With a custom solution, you can achieve even distribution of airflow and temperature, ensuring that everyone in the room is comfortable no matter where they are sitting. This can lead to increased productivity and satisfaction among occupants.

Certified in efficiency and efficacy

Building Research Establishment (BRE) wind tunnel tested MicroLouvre Koolshade® screens from different angles and proved it to be indestructible at winds exceeding 100mph/160 kph/46 metres per second.

The Berkeley Lab included MicroLouvre Koolshade® in a major research project for PG&E. With MicroLouvre Koolshade®, daily cooling loads were reduced by 68% on sunny days when compared with dual pane, high performance solar control glass with an internal blind.

The IFC Group have confirmed MicroLouvre Koolshade® to be A1/A2-s1,d0 : BS EN 13501 Fire Rating, making it one of very few passive and dynamic external sun and solar heat gain blocking systems compliant for use on high rise buildings.

When tested at Fraunhofer, results confirmed MicroLouvre Koolshade® as the most comprehensive solution for Thermal and Visual Comfort in one system.
