HOW DOES MICROLOUVRE™ KOOLSHADE® WORK?
Windows exposed to the sun allow short wave radiation to flow through where it converts to long wave radiation which is then trapped inside allowing temperatures to exceed 38°C. MicroLouvre™ Koolshade® solar shading works totally differently from traditional external and internal blinds by simply and invisibly neutralising solar heat gain and glare before they even reach the window, like a heat sponge soaking up the heat and energy and discharging it into the atmosphere like a chimney.

In 2016, research and testing, commissioned by energy giant Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) proved that MicroLouvre™ Koolshade® outperformed the latest high performance solar glass by 68%, even with modern HVAC systems and also outperforming traditional external and internal blind/shade systems.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, with a staff of 1200, is the largest solar research institute in Europe. When tested at Fraunhofer, the angle selective MicroLouvre achieved impressive results confirming MicroLouvre as the most comprehensive solution for Thermal and Visual Comfort in one system. Thermal Comfort performance includes a perfect Solar Transmittance (0.00Ts) and a perfect Solar Factor (0.00gtot) performance for the hottest sun angles. At the same time MicroLouvre achieves the highest Class 4 Visual Comfort Classifications for both Visual Contact with the outside (MicroLouvre was 20% higher than the Class 4 requirement) and Daylight Utilisation, all with a perfect 100% Colour Rendering Index (CRI) essential for any high performance window coverings for the Health and Safety of occupants.
The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory California is a multiprogram science lab in the national laboratory system supported by the U.S. Department of Energy through its Office of Science. The Berkeley Lab included MicroLouvre in a major research project for one of America’s largest Energy companies. With MicroLouvre, daily cooling loads were reduced by 68% on sunny days when compared with dual pane, high performance solar control glass with an internal blind. MicroLouvre was able to maintain daylight levels within the “acceptable” range for greater than 80% of the tested period.

Building Research Establishment (BRE) the world's leading building science centre, wind tunnel tested MicroLouvre screens from different angles to simulate severe wind conditions on high buildings and MicroLouvre proved to be indestructible at winds exceeding 100mph/ 160 kph / 46 metres per second, in excess of Hurricane Force 12 on the Beaufort Scale and a Category 2 Hurricane on the Saffir–Simpson scale.
