Creative spacecraft since the 1970's

The malleability of Microlouvre™ fabric makes it suitable and adaptable to a multitude of design ideas and purposes.

In fact, over the years, MicroLouvre™ has been of particular interest to many engineers, modellers, sculptors and craft hobbyists as it can be provided in any shape, size or RAL colour to suit your needs, and it can be further shaped and sized using a standard pair of scissors.

Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) Studios knew the importance of the fabric when creating some of the most renowned spaceships in the world. Throughout the 1970’s, MicroLouvre™, (then known as Koolshade), was used for the modelling of the TIE Fighter, Millennium Falcon, Leia’s Blockade Runner and the Death Star ships, all which featured in the original Star Wars movies.

The architectural fabric was chosen for its aesthetic, as well as it being lightweight, durable and providing free air transfer for ventilation. It is easily configured into many geometric shapes and sizes whilst being extremely flexible, sturdy and resilient, making it suitable for retro-fitting as well as for new projects.

The metal fabric is still being sold today as a unique modelling material; the vast majority being required for TIE Fighter replicas for Star Wars modellers. The metal louvred fabric, powder coated in black is distinctive in the design of the TIE fighter’s wings.

We encourage the use of our product for modelling enthusiasts as it is strong, reliable and multi-functional, with a wide variety of benefits including, but not limited to, defending the galaxy.
