 Koolshade® Testimonials

We like to hear about the results gained from our installations, read below some of the feedback we have had.

Our testimonials are from residential and commercial customers and also from our partners around the world.

But we start with a comment from one of the most iconic American architects. He designed more than 1,000 structures over a creative period of 70 years.

Frank Lloyd Wright said of KoolShade,

“New building material is very rare. This is a new building material. It is more important than even you can realize. Not just windows, but entire walls and sections of buildings could be screened and protected from the sun's hot rays.”

Residential Customer - (AGH) Hampshire, UK.

"My house in Havant has a open-plan living room and kitchen that has a large 'lantern' style glass roof in the centre of the room. The summer of 2018 was unbearably hot with the sun blazing in from early morning until late evening. The temperatures in the room were up in the thirties at least and I had to put sun glasses on before going into the kitchen in the morning. I was sure that I wanted to find a solution in case we had another summer like that.

I got quotes from a couple of companies selling conservatory blinds but they had to have ugly wires holding the blinds in place, they wouldn't do anything to lower the room temperature - and they were quite expensive! Around about £500 for a blind to cover the lantern.  I decided that I didn't want expensive blinds that would collect dust and keep all the light out. I also spoke to a company making solar control glass, but retrofitting the lantern glass was beyond my budget and the supervisor at the manufacturer told me that the glass wasn't that effective! I came to the conclusion that there must be some other new technologies around that would solve the problem.

I did a bit of research and came across the microlouvres and I was happy to find that Smartlouvre Technology was just down the road from me. The engineers at Smartlouvre did a lot of technical analysis to make sure the bespoke screens would fit perfectly on the triangular and rectangular shapes of the glass lantern, and that they would be technically effective. With microlouvre screens I would still have a perfect view of the clouds overhead, but the room would be a lot cooler in summer and still have all the light I needed. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a permanent, affordable and low-maintenance solution.

The screens have been up for a while now - we've had all types of weather including strong winds and the screens just sit there and do exactly what I wanted them to do. If I want to get up there and clean the windows I can just unhook the latch and lift the screen up.  The Smartlouvre Technology team have been great to work with - they keep in touch, they let me know exactly what they were going to do, and they have gone to a lot of trouble to get the technical specifications perfect for the unusual angles of the lantern. I am recommending Smartlouvre microlouvres to friends and neighbours. With climate change already affecting our weather I feel very pleased that I have discovered and invested in a technical solution that is going to be effective year after year".

Residential Customer - (PW) Scotland.

"I originally saw you mentioned in the Passivhaus magazine some 2/3 years ago and noted the detail as the back of our house faces nearly due south. The house itself is a 1950's bungalow and the windows are well positioned and sized to limit the amount of direct summer sun that enters the property.

We had the garden room rebuilt in 2020 choosing floor to ceiling windows whilst at the same time recognising that even with a tiled roof the room would get warm. We fitted internal blinds which we found cut the glare but not the heat build-up in the room. It was during the 2021 summer that we decided to explore the possibility of fitting your product but were concerned that this was targeted at the business community and cost would be prohibitive. However, we were pleasantly surprised at the price and decided to proceed.

We did consider several materials which stick to the windows to reflect the sun but felt that your product was a better specified solution, we liked the science behind it and the fact that it was easily removable.

We have not had the benefit of seeing the product work on a hot summer's day but like the product. It blends well with the fabric of the garden room, is unobtrusive and does not spoil the view into the garden. We have also seen how the winter sun still passes through the screen to light the room".

Fred W. Links, Chief, Department of Finance, State of California, Sacramento, Calif. “As soon as the KOOLSHADE Screens were installed the temperature in the room dropped 17 degrees below the temperature which developed in the room prior to the time the KOOLSHADE Screens were installed.’'

G. H. Stevens, Traffic Bureau Chief, The Associated Press, Phoenix, Ariz. “With the thermometer soaring around the 100 mark at noon my home has remained about 80 degrees. It has not been necessary to turn on the cooling system until afternoon.''

J. C. Butler, Group Hospital Service, Inc., Syracuse, N. Y.  “We are certain of at least 10 degrees reduction in office temperature and furthermore we noted that the volume of breeze was not reduced by the screen."

Architect - (MG) London, UK.

Along with the aesthetic and technological feel that the home-owner needed, the client also specified that the solution must also allow for natural daylight and views out to be maintained. Furthermore, the uncontrollable heat gain was causing crucial issues and nuisance inside the residence.

"MicroLouvre is a really effective solar control product not only pleasing to the eye, but you can really feel the difference when standing behind and its cooling effects. The nature of this dense metal louvre fabric creates very interesting halo effects when hit by light giving it an animated and yet very technological feel."

Martin Gruenanger, Space Group Architects

Commercial Laboratory - (ION) Cambridgeshire, UK.

Since ION moved into their stunning, ultra-modern, cedar-clad‘Passive’ complex building, there has been a problem with heat passing through the glass roof where their gas leak and sensing equipment is designed has proved problematic. The ION Science team struggled with solar heat gain pouring through workshop skylights because temperature regulation for sensitive testing equipment was essential.

"Microlouvre Koolshade® is a good product and does exactly what we needed it to do. Fair price compared to other estimates we received for alternative methods" Adam Wyeth - ION Science

E. J. Hedstrom, Supt., Burnett Sanitarium, Fresno, Calif. “The result was most gratifying and as a consequence we have made three additional purchases . . . our KOOL-SHADED rooms were from 10 to 12 degrees cooler and considering that we made no attempt to control the temperature due to open inside doors and other windows not protected we are convinced that KOOLSHADE really will screen out heat and glare.’'

Walter S. McClure, President, Fleetwood Bank, Mount Vernon, N. Y. “The KOOLSHADE Screen which you installed in my office this Spring is working out very satisfactorily. It has unquestionably reduced the temperature of the room many degrees, and it also does much to minimize the glare and light."

D. O. Beusse, Manager, Atlanta Biltmore Hotel, Atlanta, Ga. “You have, we believe, introduced us to a product to remedy a definite hotel problem — that is, heat, glare and fading within rooms exposed to the sun."

Residential Property - (CL) Guernsey, UK.

"I have been meaning to drop you an email for a while.

We are really pleased with the screens. They arrived safely packaged and fitted perfectly.

The difference they have made to the temperature within the house is a game changer!

The solar gain we were getting through the windows before the screens were fitted made those rooms unbearable when the sun was out.

Obviously we can remove the screens during the winter and make use of the solar gain.

We will be recommending the product to as many people as we can.

Thanks for your help".

G. L. Knox, Vice-President, Utility Trailer Mfg. Co., Los Angeles, Calif. “The South offices stay just as comfortable throughout the hottest day as those on the North.''

W. A. Jones, W. A. Jones Optical Dispensing Co., Cleveland, Ohio. “I can truthfully and honestly say that they do all that you claim and more too.''

 A. M. Stires, Architectural Editor, House and Garden, New York, N. Y. “| find that this room is now actually cooler at noon than is the room next to it which faces South and West and which therefore is considerably less exposed to the morning sun."'

Nissan - (Lionel Motors) Rustenburg, SA.

"Microlouvre Koolshade® screens were quickly and smoothly installed, with no internal disruption to the activities of a very busy showroom and offices. Within 10 minutes, internal temperatures dropped by 10°C and the once too hot to touch glass was cool to the touch. You could certainly feel the difference when touching the glass on the inside before and after the screens were fitted".
